Meghan Stevenson-Krausz ’08: Creating Opportunity for Underrepresented People
Aaron Dalton '94
A firm believer that “talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not,” Meghan Stevenson-Krausz ’08 has dedicated her young but impactful career to providing opportunity through impact investing to underrepresented people and financially underserved communities across the globe.
While working at Spark, a global gender equity nonprofit, Stevenson-Krausz met angel investor Fernando Donayre. She “leapt at the opportunity” to launch and run operations for what would become Inca Ventures, a venture capital fund for fintech entrepreneurs in Peru who were making a positive social impact in their communities.
Recognizing the positive impact that thoughtful investing could have in the often-overlooked Latin American region, Stevenson-Krausz fulfilled a lifelong dream of living in a Spanish-speaking country and moved to Lima in October 2019. Since then, she has helped Inca Ventures invest $2 million in 17 companies based in the Andean region. The fund plans for ten-fold growth—and exponential impact—in the near future, investing in communities “with a strong desire for life-changing solutions to be born,” says Stevenson-Krausz, who was promoted to partner earlier this year.
“We want to make sure that what we’re investing in is going to make a positive impact,” she says about the fund’s mandate. As for her own personal goals, Stevenson-Krausz is focused on increasing diversity and inclusion in Venture Capital, both as the founder of the Latin American chapter of Diversity VC and through her work on the board of the Peruvian VC Association.
Though her family history and personal background were critical in inspiring her cross-cultural career focus, Stevenson-Krausz says that, “Shipley gave me an incredible platform from which to jump into basically anything I set my mind to, not only academically, but also from a service learning perspective.”
The Shipley School is a private, coeducational day school for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students, located in Bryn Mawr, PA. Through our commitment to educational excellence, we develop within each student a love of learning and a desire for compassionate participation in the world.
