The Shipley Speer Gallery houses rotating exhibitions by professional artists throughout the school year. Each exhibit is carefully curated by the Shipley Fine Arts Committee who work closely with the Fine Arts Program, to seek out inspiring and unique artists from the Philadelphia region and beyond. In so doing, The gallery exposes our students to wider cultural currents and encourages them to appreciate and explore the world of fine art up close and personal.
The annual schedule of exhibits consists of six or seven shows, including one Shipley alumni show and one Shipley student show. One of the highlights of the year is an annual exhibit curated from the internationally acclaimed West collection. Members of the Shipley Fine Arts Committee work closely with the Art Department to identify professional artists institutions to exhibit in the gallery. As well, they coordinate the logistics of each show including installation and dismantling, and crucially serve as ambassadors of the arts at Shipley.
