Eighth Graders Recognized at Annual Middle School Awards Ceremony

Shipley’s Middle School held its annual Awards Ceremony for eighth-graders on Wednesday, May 17. The ceremony featured eight awards, given to students by Head of Middle School Shane Kinsella and Head of School Michael Turner. Faculty members also read a personal citation for each award winner. Congratulations to the following students:
 
Diana Russell Deacon Award - Lilla Tsvetkov
The first award is given in honor of Diana Russell Deacon, a former Head of Middle School and history teacher. She is a strong, honest, intellectual woman who loves the arts and cares deeply about the development of the individual. The recipient, whose personal example of citizenship and leadership has enhanced the quality of life in the Middle School, follows in the footsteps of Diana Russell Deacon.
 
Dorothy Sykes Award - Chloe Murphy
This award is given in honor of Dorothy Sykes, a former Shipley math teacher, who fostered academic excellence. The award recognizes the student whose intellectual curiosity, originality, creativity, enthusiasm, perseverance, and ability to work independently have enabled him or her to achieve the highest academic average during the eighth-grade year.
 
Character Honor & Spirit Award - Carly Dizio and Missiah Gamble-Russell
This award is given annually to the students who best exemplify moral integrity, demonstrate a sense of personal achievement and worth, and show concern for others at School and in the larger community.
 
Community Service Award - Ella Norquist
This award is given annually to an eighth-grade student in recognition of his or her outstanding service to the school community. This student has shown: an awareness of community, the initiative to help others within the school and larger community, and an ability to get others involved.
 
Arts Award – Ella Norquist
This award is given to the student who supports and appreciates the depth and breadth of the arts program, who through all or any specific of our visual arts, music, and theater programs, demonstrates overall courage, creativity, quality, and spirit in artistic process and presentation.
 
Head of Middle School Award - Andrew Paul
The Head of Middle School award is presented, at the discretion of the Head of Middle School, considering faculty nominations, and other criteria to a student or students whose contributions to Middle School have demonstrated their loyalty and dedication to making the most of their experience, and to positive growth for the community.
 
Class of 1984 Boy's Cup - Lukas Farrell and Rowan Wetzel
The Class of 1984 Boy’s Cup is awarded annually to the Middle School student-athlete whose contributions have enriched the Shipley Athletics Program, exhibiting excellence in athletic achievement and ability and serving as an exemplary role model for his teammates. He has the best interest of his team at heart, displaying the highest standards of sportsmanship.
 
Class of 1984 Girl's Cup - Gianna Jackson and Ella Viscardo
The Class of 1984 Girl’s Cup is awarded annually to the Middle School student-athlete whose contributions have enriched the Shipley Athletics Program, exhibiting excellence in athletic achievement and ability and serving as an exemplary role model for her teammates. She has the best interest of her team at heart, displaying the highest standards of sportsmanship.
