Lexi Wojtelwicz ’20: THON 2024

Ali Schwartz ’10
Just before graduating in 2020, Lexi Wojtelwicz reflected on her time at Shipley, writing, “Shipley is constantly presenting different ways to try something new…. There are so many ways to step out of your comfort zone, grow, and discover your passions while knowing you have the support of the whole community”. Now a senior at Penn State University, Lexi will be representing her Greek organization, Delta Gamma, in THON 2024. Lexi shares more about THON and her leadership role.
Getting involved in school life is nothing new to Lexi Wojtelwicz ’20. As a Shipley student, she was a Student Life Representative for two years, Co-Head of Shipley’s DECA chapter her senior year, captain of the 2019 varsity girls’ soccer team, captain of the 2018-2020 varsity girls’ softball teams, an Admissions Ambassador all four years of high school, and served as Class President junior and senior years.

THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Its mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness, and ensure funding for critical research to enhance the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. THON's yearlong efforts culminate in a 46-hour, no-sleeping, no-sitting, dance marathon.

Being involved in THON is huge at Penn State. You can join a THON committee, which I did sophomore year and was a part of the Hospitality committee, or you can be involved through your club or organization. I have been involved through my Greek organization, Delta Gamma, since my freshman year at Penn State. This year I am the Donor and Alumni Relations (DAR) Chair and have had the opportunity to lead my sorority, along with three other chairs and two assistant chairs, toward our THON goals. Some initiatives I created this year are a monthly alumni newsletter, an alumni GroupMe, a focus on strengthening our corporate matching practices, and providing organization members with resources to more easily spread THON's mission.

This year I am extra excited because I will be dancing in THON 2024! This is something that I have been working towards my past four years at Penn State, and to have the opportunity to dance for my organization in February and further spread THON's mission is so special to me, and a dream come true.
