After an extensive international search, Head of School Michael G. Turner announced the appointment of Chantra Reinman as Shipley’s next Head of Middle School, effective July 1, 2023.
Chantra brings nearly three decades of experience as an administrator and teacher, domestically and abroad. She currently is a member of the Senior Leadership Team at The American International School, Lusaka, Zambia, where she is the Director of Inclusion and a member of the Child Protection Team. Previously, Chantra was the Assistant Head of School at The Lewis School of Princeton, NJ, where she served at various times as the Middle and Upper School principal. As an educator, Chantra’s main area has been teaching English. A hallmark of her work as an administrator has been a commitment to professional development and sharing knowledge with her communities. Chantra holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Bryn Mawr College, a Master of Science from Villanova University, and a Master of Educational Leadership from The College of New Jersey.
This summer, Chantra and her husband, Mark Reinman, will return to the Philadelphia area where they met. Chantra is looking forward to joining the Shipley community and shared: “I began my journey as an educator several decades ago as a volunteer English teacher in Taiwan. It was the only way I knew to support what I really wanted to do: Scale the Great Wall of China and stand atop a mountain in Tibet. I got to see the Great Wall and never made it into Tibet. But what began as a way of paying for my travels became a lifelong commitment to learning. My journey now brings me to Shipley, where, in my visit, I experienced firsthand courage and grace in every deed and action. It is my delight and true honor to return to the town of Bryn Mawr and serve at The Shipley School.”
"I am deeply grateful to our Search Advisory Committee and search partner, Carney Sandoe, for leading a comprehensive, international search," commented Michael Turner. "The size, depth, caliber, and diversity of the candidate pool was outstanding—reflecting the great work of those who were part of the teams above as well as the attractiveness of Shipley to highly-skilled professionals. I would also like to extend my gratitude to so many of you who participated in this important search."
