Niamh joined the Shipley community in sixth grade from Utah.

Activities and Positions: Shipley Sprouts, Lower School Volunteer, Breaking Through (Leader)

Favorite Club: Sprouts. I have done it each year. I learned so much from the club like flower arranging, making candles, and how to plant seeds correctly. I love competing in the Philadelphia Flower Show because it is such a cool experience that a lot of people don't get to experience.

Favorite Class: English. English is of course different every year but I really loved my English class in 11th grade because my teacher was very hands-on with each activity and even brought us on mini field trips. I was able to build a strong connection with her because of our similar interests in books. The class discussions were also very productive and fun at the same time.

Best Thing about Shipley: I think of the support you can receive. I think one of the best things I have experienced from Shipley is the support my teachers have given me. If you ask they are always willing to help you. I found it easy to build connections with teachers each year. With certain teachers I was able to build connections with outside of the classroom also, which made me feel supported on days I struggled.

What is one piece of advice that you would share with new students? Put yourself out there. The more you put yourself out there the more successful you will be. Build connections with students and faculty through your classes, clubs, sports, etc. I believe it makes all the difference to your experience here at school.
