Favorite Club: It's really hard to decide but I have to go with Spirit Squad. Shipley hadn't had cheer or dance in years and we brought it back! It's so fun performing at big games and assemblies, especially Super Saturday under the lights! I love getting the Swamp hyped up and hearing the crowd get excited with us. We bring school spirit and get people excited which is really fun.
Favorite Class:I was shocked to find that Modern American Women has been my favorite class at Shipley so far. History has never been my favorite subject and I usually find it boring but learning about things that so closely impacted me and studying history that is so recent felt very relevant, important, and interesting to me. Dr. Gillin's passion for teaching the course made me feel so engaged and excited to learn more. I was so interested in the coursework that I would get comments on projects saying I put too much information!
Best Thing about Shipley:For me, the theater department has become my home at Shipley. When I did the musical for the first time freshman year, I fell in love with doing musical theater and found the activity I'm most passionate about. I think at a lot of schools you need to find your passion in athletics but at Shipley, I had other options to explore, which turned out to be a better fit for me. I've made so many friends doing shows here and loved getting to know people from other grades that I had never spoken to before. The musical creates such a tight-knit community by the end of the show and the relationships that come out of it last the rest of your Shipley career. Getting to play some of my dream roles with my favorite people has been the best part of my Shipley experience for sure.
What is one piece of advice that you would share with new students? Talk to literally everyone during your first few days here! Everyone is excited to meet you and get to know you. The easiest way to make friends is to start up a conversation and you never know what it can lead to!
