Compassionate participation in the world is a foundational pillar of Shipley’s mission. They aren’t just words - Shipley students live by this statement through their everyday actions.
As the holiday season approached, Shipley’s fourth graders recognized the great need of other children their age around the holidays. How could they provide these children with holiday cheer? Presents!
The class partnered with Foster Angels on Earth to provide presents to foster children who may not otherwise receive a gift. Each student worked to earn money, with projects ranging from bake sales to dog walking, pooled their money together, and took a class trip to Target to purchase special presents.
A representative from Foster Angels on Earth said, “Your willingness to come together as a school community and contribute to our program reflects the spirit of kindness and compassion that embodies the true meaning of the holidays. Your generosity has brightened the holiday season for these children and shown them that there are caring and compassionate individuals and organizations like yours that believe in their well-being.”
Foster Angels on Earth is an Abington, PA-based non-profit bringing awareness to the issues children face in foster care and providing various supports to help bridge the gap for children within their peer group and the systems that affect their lives. Their holiday gift program provides gifts for children in the foster care system within the surrounding counties.
