Mia joined the Shipley community in sixth grade from Friends Central.

Activities and Positions: Shipley Singers, Glee Club, Crew (Captain), ASL Club (Founder)

Favorite Club: My favorite club is Shipley Singers. It's such a great group of people and we all get so close throughout the school year. As the highest singing group at Shipley, we get to do extra performances and share our love for singing with other people. During rehearsals, we basically just have fun and joke while learning songs and it's so amazing.

Favorite Class: My favorite class was Modern American Women. I loved learning about women's history since it helped me understand the challenges I will face throughout my professional career. Dr. Gillin was also so passionate about the subject that everyone in our class fed off her energy to become just as into the subject. I knew I was going to love this class but it shocked me how much because history is not my strongest spot. I often struggle to get into the material and Dr. Gillin just made it so enjoyable that I had no problems.

Best Thing about Shipley: When I think of Shipley I think of Mr. Ryan's house. He also says that we need to build the house to create a community and while we always make fun of him for it he has created a great space. I found my closest friends ever at Shipley and while there is always room for improvement I wouldn't give them up for anything.

What is one piece of advice that you would share with new students? Reach out! Your teachers love to hear from you and are always there to offer help. I still talk to some of my teachers from sophomore year and they still help me through tough times. If you create a good relationship with your teachers, your classes will be so much easier and more enjoyable. They might even let you get away with missing an assignment, shh!
