2025 Young Alumni Award Presented to Tess Hart ’05
The Shipley School is proud to honor Tess Hart ’05 as the recipient of the 2025 Young Alumni Award. This award recognizes an alum who has graduated within the past twenty years and demonstrates innovation, curiosity, and creativity in the pursuit of excellence in their chosen field, whether in a profession, through formal volunteer activities, or by personal commitment to a cause.
Tess embodies the spirit of this award through her work as co-founder and CEO of Triple Bottom Brewing, a Philadelphia-based brewery with a social mission. Through her leadership, Triple Bottom Brewing has become a model for inclusive employment, community engagement, and sustainability. Most notably, Tess spearheaded the launch of the Future of Service Apprenticeship, a paid, 16-week training and leadership development program designed to help individuals impacted by the justice system or housing insecurity build meaningful careers.
Prior to founding Triple Bottom Brewing, Tess built a career in community and economic development, working as a consultant for organizations such as Reinvestment Fund, Ford Foundation, and LIFT. She continues to be a leader in the business and nonprofit communities, serving on the Board of Directors for the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia. Her impact has been widely recognized—she was named one of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, received the United Way’s Women Entrepreneur Award, and participated in the prestigious REDF Accelerator for employment-focused social enterprises.
A Philadelphia native, Tess holds a B.A. from Brown University and earned both a Master of Environmental Management and an MBA from Yale. Her work reflects Shipley’s values of critical thinking, compassion, and a commitment to creating positive change in the world.
Through her vision, curiosity, and commitment to social impact, Tess Hart exemplifies the qualities recognized by the Young Alumni Award. We are thrilled to celebrate her innovation and dedication to excellence with the 2025 Young Alumni Award.

BJ Glenn ’07: Building a Career on Exposure to Communities Outside His Own
The son of a North Philly cop and South Philly educator, Shipley alumnus Robert "BJ" Glenn III ’07 demonstrated prowess as an athlete and as a student. Knowing the importance of a good education, BJ's parents enrolled him in Kindergarten at Shipley where he soon made his mark in class, and later on Shipley’s playing fields in lacrosse, baseball, and other sports. But it was at daily recess at age 6 when he discovered a sport that perfectly blended his budding speed and agility with a strong leg: soccer.Read More -

Carter Barnhart ’10: Making Mental Health Care More Accessible
Carter Barnhart ’10 is the co-founder and CEO of Charlie Health, with the goal of providing high-quality, personalized mental health treatment to a broader population through a virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) that combines group, individual, and family therapy sessions delivered entirely online. Helen “Honey” Beuf ’78: Turning Grief Into Action
When Helen “Honey” Beuf ’78 lost her daughter to suicide, she turned her grief into action. Working with a good friend who is a movie producer, Honey and her other daughter, Tess, decided to produce a documentary film called My Sister Liv. In making the film, Honey says she became aware of unmet needs of kids in learning about suicide prevention and mental health.Read More -

Where are They Now: Greg Coleman
This beloved former French teacher and Admissions Director retired from Shipley in 2009 after 32 years of serving in various teaching and administrative roles.
