2025 Alumni Service Award Presented to Katrina "Katy" Sherrerd '75, PhD, CFA
The Shipley School is proud to recognize Katrina "Katy" Sherrerd ’75, PhD, CFA as the recipient of the 2025 Alumni Service Award. This honor is presented to an alum who has demonstrated outstanding volunteer service to Shipley through strong loyalty, exceptional contributions of time and effort, and a personal commitment to advancing the School’s mission.
Katy’s dedication to Shipley is evident in her long-standing involvement with the School. A valued member of Shipley’s Board of Trustees, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the School’s future through her leadership and strategic insight. Since joining the Alumni Council in 2020, Katy has been an engaged advocate for alumni engagement and giving back to the Shipley community. Her passion for fostering meaningful connections among alumni and supporting the School’s initiatives exemplifies the spirit of this award.
Beyond her volunteer service, Katy has made a lasting impact on Shipley through her philanthropy. She established the "Valuing Others Fund" endowment, reinforcing Shipley’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful community—values that have been central to her personal and professional life.
Katy brings the same level of dedication and leadership to her professional career. She serves as Vice Chair and member of the Executive Committee of the board of Research Affiliates, a global leader in investment research. Since joining the firm in 2006, she has held various leadership roles, including CEO, president, and COO. Prior to this, she spent nearly two decades at CFA Institute, where she led research and education efforts for investment professionals worldwide.
A recognized leader in finance, Katy has been named one of Barron's 100 Most Influential Women in US Finance (2020, 2021) and Pensions & Investments’ Most Influential Women in Institutional Investing (2024). She holds degrees from the University of Virginia and MIT and remains active in numerous industry organizations.
Katy’s unwavering dedication to Shipley, both as a leader and benefactor, has strengthened the School’s alumni community and helped advance its mission. We are honored to celebrate her exceptional service and commitment with the 2025 Alumni Service Award.

BJ Glenn ’07: Building a Career on Exposure to Communities Outside His Own
The son of a North Philly cop and South Philly educator, Shipley alumnus Robert "BJ" Glenn III ’07 demonstrated prowess as an athlete and as a student. Knowing the importance of a good education, BJ's parents enrolled him in Kindergarten at Shipley where he soon made his mark in class, and later on Shipley’s playing fields in lacrosse, baseball, and other sports. But it was at daily recess at age 6 when he discovered a sport that perfectly blended his budding speed and agility with a strong leg: soccer.Read More -

Carter Barnhart ’10: Making Mental Health Care More Accessible
Carter Barnhart ’10 is the co-founder and CEO of Charlie Health, with the goal of providing high-quality, personalized mental health treatment to a broader population through a virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) that combines group, individual, and family therapy sessions delivered entirely online. Helen “Honey” Beuf ’78: Turning Grief Into Action
When Helen “Honey” Beuf ’78 lost her daughter to suicide, she turned her grief into action. Working with a good friend who is a movie producer, Honey and her other daughter, Tess, decided to produce a documentary film called My Sister Liv. In making the film, Honey says she became aware of unmet needs of kids in learning about suicide prevention and mental health.Read More -

This beloved former French teacher and Admissions Director retired from Shipley in 2009 after 32 years of serving in various teaching and administrative roles.
