2025 Distinguished Alumni Award Presented to Dammun Pierce ’90, DO
The Shipley School is honored to present the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award to Dammun Pierce ’90, DO. This award recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication, and personal accomplishments in a particular field of endeavor, whether in a chosen profession, through formal volunteer activities, or by personal commitment to an issue, project, or cause.
A highly respected physician and educator, Dr. Dammun Pierce has dedicated his career to advancing healthcare and medical education. Currently an Associate Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine and Co-Director of the OB/Gyn Clinical Clerkship at Virginia Hospital Center, he has trained and mentored countless future medical professionals. His expertise and leadership have been instrumental in improving obstetric and gynecological care, particularly through his work as an OB/Gyn Academic Hospitalist at Virginia Hospital Center.
After earning his bachelor's in computer science from Colgate University, Dammun pivoted toward medicine, completing a second bachelor's degree in biology at Old Dominion University. He then obtained his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University Hospital. His career has included serving as Chief of Surgery at Hilton Head Hospital and providing essential care to underserved communities in South Carolina.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dammun is deeply committed to increasing diversity in medicine and addressing disparities in maternal health outcomes for African American women. His dedication to service extends to mentoring minority students in medicine and advocating for improved obstetrical care nationwide. His contributions to medical education and his passion for equitable healthcare exemplify Shipley’s core values of excellence, compassion, and lifelong learning.
We are proud to recognize Dr. Dammun Pierce for his remarkable career and his commitment to making a lasting impact in the medical field with the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award.

BJ Glenn ’07: Building a Career on Exposure to Communities Outside His Own
The son of a North Philly cop and South Philly educator, Shipley alumnus Robert "BJ" Glenn III ’07 demonstrated prowess as an athlete and as a student. Knowing the importance of a good education, BJ's parents enrolled him in Kindergarten at Shipley where he soon made his mark in class, and later on Shipley’s playing fields in lacrosse, baseball, and other sports. Carter Barnhart ’10: Making Mental Health Care More Accessible
Carter Barnhart ’10 is the co-founder and CEO of Charlie Health, with the goal of providing high-quality, personalized mental health treatment to a broader population through a virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) that combines group, individual, and family therapy sessions delivered entirely online. Helen “Honey” Beuf ’78: Turning Grief Into Action
When Helen “Honey” Beuf ’78 lost her daughter to suicide, she turned her grief into action. Working with a good friend who is a movie producer, Honey and her other daughter, Tess, decided to produce a documentary film called My Sister Liv. In making the film, Honey says she became aware of unmet needs of kids in learning about suicide prevention and mental health.Read More -

This beloved former French teacher and Admissions Director retired from Shipley in 2009 after 32 years of serving in various teaching and administrative roles.
