Morgan Waller Johnson ’09: How Leadership Opportunities at Shipley Shaped My Advocacy Work

Morgan Waller Johnson ’09, NCC, LPC
Morgan Waller Johnson ’09, NCC, LPC, is the Director of Behavioral Health for a non-profit organization in Philadelphia and oversees three Programs: Outpatient Mental Health, Mobile Mental Health, and Intensive Behavioral Health Services. Morgan credits Shipley’s diverse opportunities for shaping her advocacy skills and encourages current students to embrace growth and new experiences.

"As the President of S.U.R.E. (Students United for Racial Equality) during my senior year, I had the chance to attend the People of Color Conference (POCC): Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC). These experiences were pivotal in developing my advocacy skills, enabling me to better support myself and fellow minority students. Today, I leverage these skills in my role at my agency, where I advocate for clients and strive to diminish the stigma surrounding mental healthcare within minority communities.

I encourage current Shipley students to embrace every opportunity that comes their way. My time at Shipley pushed me beyond my comfort zone, both socially and academically, and played a significant role in shaping who I am today. Whether it was tackling a tough assignment in American Studies or spending two weeks on an exchange trip to Panama, Shipley offered many chances for growth and helped me build the confidence to explore new experiences."
