- Almost 60 percent hold graduate degrees, including six Ph.D.s.
- 8-1 student-teacher ratio
- Average class size, 16 in the Upper and Lower Schools, 17 in the Middle School.
- Each of the Lower School grades has at least one second teacher.
Lifelong Learners—Professional Development Shipley supports its faculty with a comprehensive Professional Development Program that gives annual grants for study and travel. Faculty members have used Professional Development funds to: - Attend programs at institutions such as the Teacher’s College at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania
- Travel to China, Latin America, Italy, and Greece
- Prepare new interdisciplinary courses
- Collaborate on integrated curriculum, Pre-K through Grade 12
- Experiment with effective use of technology in the classroom
- At any given time, an average of six faculty members are pursuing graduate degrees.
- Faculty members are often asked to give presentations at other schools, colleges, and professional workshops and symposia.
Professional Activities- An Upper School math teacher presents workshops at conferences of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
- A College Counselor is President of The Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling and a member of the President's Council, The National Association for College Admission Counseling.
- A Latin teacher has presented and published papers on various Classical subjects and arranges Latin plays for performance.
- Art teachers exhibit regularly in juried shows and galleries in Philadelphia, New York, and Europe.
- Coaches participate in their sports and win distinction in them in their lives outside Shipley
Compassionate Participation in the Community
Shipley faculty members are active in (among many others):
- Habitat for Humanity
- Charitable bicycle, foot, and dragon boat races
- Local youth sports
- Churches, hospitals, and other service organizations
- Shipley In-Service days have included volunteering at some 20 local non-profit organizations.
