We believe that technology encompasses more than just the building of skills, but the building of an ethical understanding of its use and place in the processing of information and communication. Technology that encourages collaboration, knowledge building, and competency is the focus of the developmentally appropriate computer curricula in the Lower, Middle and Upper School divisions. Shipley teachers strive to use technology to extend their students’ learning experiences beyond the traditional confines of the classroom by embracing global communication. They also use technology to respond to their students’ individual needs. Shipley’s infrastructure of fiber optic connectivity and its high speed T-1 connection to the Internet makes technology-enhanced learning possible. Computers in classrooms, dedicated labs, libraries, and other common areas provide access for students, faculty, and staff. The introduction of wireless laptop carts in the Lower and Middle Schools offers students the capability of “anywhere, anytime learning”. The traditional confinement of the four walls of our classrooms has been unalterably removed.
